CAIRO – 7 January 2018: An exhibition held at the Abu Dhabi Louvre will delve into the history of its original French counterpart, the Louvre in Paris, which is considered to be the greatest museum in the world.

The exhibition, which opened on December 21, 2017, will run until April 7, 2018. Titled “From One Louvre to Another,” the exhibition promises to provide a comprehensive history lesson on the Louvre Museum, and will be divided into three sections.

It begins with the royal collections of King Louis XIV, to the studios and artist workshops of the Versailles, eventually leading up to the Museum’s grand opening in the aftermath of the French Revolution.

The exhibit will feature approximately 150 masterpieces from the earlier collections of the Louvre and Chateau de Versailles, ranging from paintings, sculptures, furniture, and ceramics from all over the globe. It is the Louvre Abu Dhabi’s first temporary exhibition.

“From One Louvre to Another” is curated by Jean-Luc Martinez, President of the Louvre, and Juliette Trey, curator of the Louvre's seventeenth and eighteenth-century prints and drawings department.

The Abu Dhabi Louvre officially opened on November 11, 2017, marking a milestone in relations between France and the UAE. The move also furthers the UAE’s status as a cultural and artistic center in the Arab world.
