American drama “The Agony & the Ecstasy” to screen in Cairo

CAIRO – 30 December 2017: American biographical film, “The Agony and the Ecstasy”, will screen at the Jesuit Cultural Center, Cairo, on December 30.


Directed by Carol Reed, “The Agony and the Ecstasy” is based on the biographical novel by Irving Stone with the same title. It revolves around iconic artist Michelangelo’s troubles with Pope Julius II while painting “Sistine Chapel.”


Released in 1965, the film stars Charlton Heston, Rex Harrison and Diane Cilento.


The film was nominated for five Academy Awards and two Golden Globe awards. It won Best Foreign Production Award from the David di Donatello Awards and several awards from the National Board of Review in 1966.
