CAIRO - 11 April 2017: For the first time in Egyptian cinema a local film will feature an all-hearing impaired cast, , Al Monitor reported on Monday.

“My Wife’s Fiance” is currently being shot in two different versions, one starring the hearing-impaired cast while the other stars the original cast of the film.

Egyptian singer Ahmed Sa’ad and actress Reem Baroudy headline the movie, slated to premier next June. The version starring the hearing-impaired cast will only show in select theaters across Egypt.

Shocked at how large the hearing-impaired community is in Egypt, Ahmed Afif, the film’s director, decided to provide a space where they could showcase their acting abilities, according to Al Monitor.

The cast went through a three-month acting workshop before shooting the scenes of the film. The film’s versions share the same story plot, costumes and scripts.

“My Wife’s Fiance” is not the first acting experience for 12 members of the cast, who starred in the Egyptian play “Perfume” in Cairo back in 2016.

The film, starring Egyptian singer Ahmed Sa’ad and actress Reem Baroudy, is set to premiere next June. The hearing-impaired version will premiere in select theaters across Egypt.
