Cairo Opera House to celebrate Arabic Language Day

CAIRO – 24 December 2017: On Arabic Language Day, Cairo Opera House and Alexandria Opera House will hold two parallel sessions on December 27. The forthcoming sessions are both considered the opera houses cultural salons' final sessions in 2017.

Headed by international Egyptian artist Amin el-Serafy at Cairo Opera House, several of Egypt’s renowned poets will participate in the celebration, such as Maged Youssef, Himat Moustafa and Essam el-Barram, in addition to short musical interludes by Egyptian singer Ali Ismail.

While Alexandria Opera House cultural salon will host award winning literature professor Zakaria Anani, head of the Department of Arabic at the Faculty of Arts, Alexandria University Mourad Abbas, and the director of Manuscripts Center of Bibliotheca Alexandrina along with other talented Alexandrian poets.

Arabic Language Day was set for the first time in 2012 by the General Assembly. The Arabic language also was listed as one of the formal languages in the United Nations (UN) after a suggestion from Morocco, Libya, and Saudi Arabia.
