CAIRO – 19 December 2017: A 2-week event dubbed “In the Search of Commedia” has begun at the Nahda Arts School, which aims at encouraging education of the Commedia art in the Middle East.

“Commedia dell’arte”, translated to “Comedy of the profession”, is an Italian theatrical genre that began in the 16th century and is defined by improvised dialogue and a colorful cast of stock characters. “In Search of Commedia” will explore the art form in-depth, including various archetypical characters, such as the Pantalone, Harlekino, Colombina and more.

Taking place in Cairo, the course features eight students from The Commedia School in Copenhagen who will meet up with 12 performers from Cairo. This cross-cultural exchange builds bridges between Middle Eastern and Western cultures, and serves to grow the partnership between the Nahada Arts and Commedia schools.

This project is sponsored by Danish Egyptian Dialog Center in Cairo and the Intercultural Center in Denmark.
