Egyptian Amr Waked becoming more familiar with new Hollywood role

Cairo – 27 March 2017: Egyptian actor Amr Waked is becoming a familiar face in Hollywood, and his notoriety will only increase with this year’s release of “Geostorm,” in which he stars alongside Gerard Butler and Andy Garcia.

“Geostorm” is a sci-fi revolving around the breakdown of a satellite that controls the global climate, causing natural disasters and the destruction of nations around the world and nearly demolishing humanity as we know it. Waked plays an international space-station security expert while Butler, as expected, plays the hero who tries to save the globe.

The film holds the same notion of the world-disaster movie “The Day After Tomorrow,” which also depicts natural disasters caused by climate change. Coming from the producers of “Independence Day” and “Godzilla,” “Geostorm” took about three years to produce.

Waked is known for his role as Pierre Del Rio in the Blockbuster film “Lucy,” alongside Scarlett Johansson, and for roles in the Oscar-nominated films “Syriana” and “Salmon Fishing in the Yemen.”
