Photography & Contemporary Art workshop with Hélène Bellenger

CAIRO – 6 December 2017: French contemporary artist Hélène Bellenger will be hosting a workshop at SOMA Visual art gallery titled "Photography & Contemporary Art", which runs from Thursday, December 7 until Sunday, December 10.

The event is part of SOMA’s ongoing collaboration with the Institut Français d'Égypte. The workshop’s goals are to explore the relationship between photography and contemporary art, analyzing how they interrelate.

The workshop also aims at putting a new view on photography, which we take for granted, such as selfies, news or advertising, inviting students to reflect on them in a new way. Students are thus encouraged to recycle and recreate artwork from photographs, with the final phase of the workshop exhibiting the finished pieces for further reflection.

Bellenger earned her diploma from the French National School of Photography and has exhibited at the Paris's Agnès B. gallery and Binôme gallery in 2016 and 2017 respectively.
