CAIRO – 23 November 2017: After the Egypt – Israel Peace Treaty in 1979, Egypt succeeded to retrieve the various historical artifacts unearthed by Israeli archaeological missions in 35 archaeological sites, according to an official report issued by the Egyptian Repatriation Department in 1994.
The excavation works were carried out during the Israeli occupation of Sinai from 1967 to 1982.

The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Supreme Council of Antiquities exerted great efforts in investigating and proofing the Egyptian rights to the discovered antiquities by the Israeli missions in 1980.

Also, former Minister of Culture Farouk Hosny formed a high level delegation to continue the talks with the Israeli side, the report added.
Both sides managed to agree upon retrieving the Egyptian artifacts along the period from 1993 to 1994, the report stated.

The retrieved artifacts date back to the Stone Age, the Greco-Roman era, as well as the ancient Egyptian, Byzantium and Islamic periods. They include statues, pottery containers, accessories, and coins, the report explained .
