CAIRO – 22 November 2017: Renowned Iraqi oud player and composer Naseer Shamma is scheduled to perform a concert at El Sawy Culture Wheel in Zamalek on Wednesday.

Naseer Shamma’s music and style is inspired by Iraqi history and civilization. He composes pieces that tell of his people and the social issues that contribute to their pain.

His works include the piece ‘Helm Mariam’ (Mariam’s Dream), which expresses the suffering of Iraqi children. Shamma has also composed pieces for films, theatre, ballet, and founded orchestra projects, including ‘Agmal al-Aswat’ (The Most Beautiful Sounds), which is the first to present a oud-only orchestral performance.

Shamma also founded the globally celebrated Arab chamber music band Oyoun, which merges classical and modern music styles. His award-winning establishment, the Arabian Oud House, is located in Cairo.

El Sawy Culture Wheel has previously hosted Naseer Shamma’s much-celebrated concerts, and he returns this week to perform some of his unique works at the venue’s River Hall.
