CAIRO – 7 November 2017: Theatrical Performance “Botchan” will display at Bibliotheca Alexandria (BA) in cooperation with the Japan Foundation in Cairo on November 15.

Directed by Sherif Hamdi, the play is based on a fiction novel by Japanese author Nastume Sōseki called “Botchan” that is taught in Japanese schools as part of the educational curriculum. The classical book is greatly popular among Japanese readers of all ages.

The novel is a comedy tale that revolves around a young man who rebels against the administrative system at school. The boy’s rebellion behavior takes place at a conservative community that has certain social proprieties where he scorns both elders and youngsters, consequently leading him to experience a sequence of disputes.

The Japanese novelist is well known for “Kokoro,” “I Am a Cat” and an unfinished book called “Light and Darkness.” A scholar of British Literature, Nastume was considered one of the most renowned writers in modern Japanese history and a main influencer of literature.
