CAIRO – 7 November 2017: The Egyptian short movie “Wanas” (Affability) is participating in the official competition for short movies at the Carthage International Film Festival (CIFF).
“Wanas” screened on Sunday and Monday and was well received by the audience and cinema critics. On Sunday, after the screening, the audience applauded loudly the Egyptian director Ahmed Nader, whose movie “Wanas” was his first.
“Wanas” is a very humanistic movie about a love story between an elderly married couple and how death deprives one of them from the other. The movie stars the veteran actor Abdel Rahman Abou Zahra and the veteran actress Ragaa Hussein.
The 28th edition of Carthage International Film Festival will focus on several factors, the most important of which is the development and promotion of Arab and African films through the promotion of competitions. This year’s edition will also focus on the restoration of the official competition for documentaries, doubling the financial awards, and highlighting innovative cinematic experiences.
The festival will focus intensely on Asian and Latin American cinema, which are considered globally influential. The Carthage International Film Festival management has chosen “Ketaba ala Thalg” (Writing on Snow) to be the opening film of the 28th edition.
Three Egyptian long feature movies are participating in the 28th edition of the festival. The participating Egyptian movies are “Sheikh Jackson,” “Akhdar Yabes” (Withered Green), and “Balad Meen” (Whose Country).
CIFF kicked off on November 4 and will run until November 12. This year's edition is headed by cinema producer Naguib Ayad. The Egyptian director Kamla Abu Zekri was chosen by the festival’s management to be a jury member in the long feature movies competition.
