CAIRO – 1 November 2017: The film “Psycho” will screen at ROOM Art Space and Cafe on November 5, from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.
The horror, mystery and thriller movie was first released on September 8, 1960 in the United States directed by Alfred Hitchcock and written by Joseph Stefano and Robert Bloch; starring Anthony Perkins, Janet Leigh, John Gavin, Vera Miles and Martin Balsam. It was based on the 1959 novel of the same name by Robert Bloch.
It revolves around a character called Marion Crane, who is an office worker at Phoenix, Arizona. Fed up with her life; Crane decides to steal money when her employer trusted her to bank $40,000. Consequently, Marion leaves town and heads towards her lover, Sam's, California store. Tired after the long drive and caught in a storm, she gets off the main highway and pulls into The Bates Motel. The motel is managed by a quiet young man called Norman who seems to be dominated by his mother.
The film ends with Norman sitting in the police station with his mother’s voice inside his head insisting that it was Norman and not her who committed the murders.
The movie won the Golden Globe in 1961, Saturn Award in 2009, Edgar in 1961, National Film Registry at National Film Preservation Board in 1992, and OFTA Film Hall of Fame in 1997. It was also nominated for an Oscar in 1961 as well as a Saturn Award at the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films in 2013.
