Music band Dokkan (Fragment from promotional material from official event page)
CAIRO – 1 November 2017: Cairo-based experimental music project Dokkan will be leading a live performance at Darb 1718 as part of the upcoming Cairographie Festival opening ceremony on Sunday.
The band is known for carrying out an array of contemporary musical elements blend with Egyptian sounds by using innovative instrumentation, unique melodies and rhythmic grooves.
Dokkan is comprised of Tarek El Azhary on Oud, Omar Magdy on guitar, Mohamed El Mallawany on bass, and Nayyer Osama on drums, according to the band’s official Facebook page.
Launched as the first photography festival held by Contemporary Art and Culture Center, Cairographie festival is collaboration with the Photophobia school of Photography that aims to celebrate photography and video, bringing together artists at all stages of their career, from amateurs and professionals.
The festival also aims at raising awareness of various issues through the usage of photography and video, providing artists and attendees with the opportunity for interaction.
Cairographie plans to feature a unique theme every year, with the current edition’s theme titled “Transition”. Developed by photographer Karim al-Hayawan, “Transition” deals with the concept of change and focuses on its relationship to art, using contemporary photography to explore how we respond to and deal with the infinite change in life.
Ambitious young photographer Amr al-Gabalawy, also known as Speko, will be showcasing the photos from his recent project called “New York of the Third World” at the festival as well.
Speko’s project was inspired by the different cultural background that he experienced abroad. He used photography as a thoughtful medium to express his perception about the capital.
