CAIRO – 24 October 2017: The Netherlands-Flemish Institute in Cairo (NVIC) will be screening the documentary "El-Moshagheb Fathallah Mahrous" (The Mischievous Fathallah Mahrous) on Sunday, October 29.

The documentary is directed by Omar Khaled and is an autobiographical account of Mahrous's life. Starting in the 1940s, the film follows his life after his family migrated from Upper Egypt to Alexandria a decade earlier (in the 1930s), and his childhood, where he worked in a factory.

Later on, Mahrous would find himself involved in the politics of the time as a member of the Labor Syndicate and one of Egypt’s Leftist groups. After the toppling of King Farouk in 1952, Mahrous’s life would forever be altered, much like Egypt itself had been.

The director will be present after the screening to discuss the film alongside Mahrous's colleagues.

Fathallah Mahrous died on October 22, 2016, in Alexandria.
