CAIRO – 21 October 2017: The Egyptian contemporary artist Adel El Siwi painted a portrait of the iconic Egyptian author Ibrahim Aslan. Siwi presented the portrait to Modern Art Museum as a gift on Saturday.

Siwi wanted the painting to be seen by a wide audience, and for it to be owned by the public domain.

The painting is a tribute to Aslan for his literary and cultural importance in Egyptian history.

Aslan was one of the iconic Egyptian authors, writing a number of novels such as “Malek El Hazen” [Sad Malek], and “Asafeer El Nile” [Nile Birds].

He also wrote a number of short story collections such as “Wardiyet Lil” [Night Shift].

For his distinguished literary career, many institutions have honored him such as Minia University and the Ministry of Culture.

Early 1990s, he was the head of the literary section of El Hayat’s London bureau.

He also supervised the publication of one of the Culture Ministry’s novel series called “Afaq” [Prospects].
