CAIRO – 20 October 2017: For the first-time 23-year-old artist Ahmed Mohammed, known as Ahmed Khedr, has introduced a new type of artistic production in Egypt where he encourages audiences to interact with portraits.

The first to introduce speed painting in Egypt, Mohamed blends painting with a performance style producing a work of art usually of famous people within a short period of time.

By presenting a show, it captivates countless audiences as they watch artists personifying a certain image and creating animation through choreographed music and showmanship. Speed painting is characterized by constant motions and several choices of colors.

The American art scene was the first scene to witness that art in 1981.
Mohammed has begun to focus on performing speed painting five years when he had watched a foreign artist on the internet performing that show. Consequently, he decided to train himself, but at the beginning he failed as he draws slowly and found that the materials used in the painting are expensive; however he addressed that challenge
“I have decided to work with a house painter to know different types of wall colors to replace the colors used in the performance.” Mohammed told Egypt Today.
After releasing some videos of his works, Mohammed gained popularity across media channels.

“At first, I drew only with one hand within five minutes without displaying any performance to communicate with audiences on the stage,” he said.

After training hard to reach a high level of efficiency, he was later able to use both hands and interact with music rhythm until he finally could draw upside down paintings within two minutes with closing eyes. Mohammed is also skilled in face painting.

Nelson Mandela portrait is first painting that made him have a title the fastest Egyptian painter within a minute and half.

He has participated in around 80 shows in many competitions such as Sharmers Got Talent where he got the third rank and TEDx program in Egypt besides a concert with the singer Tamer Hosny.

To fulfill his dream in spreading art among 7000 people in seven governorates, he founded Doodles and Mandalas school in 2012. The school organizes two level workshops; the first is for beginners at the age of 13 who are taught the basics of drawing and Zentangle and Mandalas art. While level 2 focuses on developing the style of the artists and support them to show their drawings.

“I am looking forward to graduating from the Faculty of Engineering to work in the field, speed painting, that I love,” noted Mohammed.
When asked to define the artistic movement in Egypt, sked about art in Egypt, Mohammed said that attention must be given to talented artists to be trained in efforts to develop their style as art is meant to deliver messages and shouldn’t only ve used to make a living. Egypt should give up the traditional teaching styles to cope up with new types of art.
