CAIRO – 20 October 2017: The Austrian-Italian drama film Mister Universo (2016) will be screening at Zawya’s 10th edition of the Panorama of the European Film festival.
The film follows a young lion tamer named Tairo Caroli, who isn’t happy with the way his life is going. The circus he works at isn’t doing so good, and most of his animals are dead or old. After picking a fight with his colleague Tairo loses a beloved talisman of his, a lucky horseshoe personally bent by Arthur Robin the 1957 Mister Universe champion. He takes to the road to find Robin, hoping the meeting would turn his luck around. Along the way he meets old friends and family from the circus.
Directors Tizza Covi, Rainer Frimmel utilized an interesting method of filmmaking by using real non-actors and crafting a fictional narrative around them to showcase their livelihood. Tairo and Robin are all real figures, but the story is an invention for the film, creating a unique blend of fiction and documentary.
