CAIRO – 19 October 2017: On October 19, 1990 the historical drama epic “Dances with Wolves” would first premiere in Washington DC before achieving a wider release a month later on November 21, to wild critical and commercial success.

Set during the American Civil War, “Dances with Wolves” both stars and is directed by famed Hollywood star Kevin Costner. Here, Costner portrays Lieutenant John Dunbar, hailed as a hero by the Union soldiers yet disillusioned with America. He encounters a strange wolf and a tribe of Native Americans after he’s transferred to a remote post, and begins forming a friendship that eventually leads him to fall in love with an American woman adopted by the Natives; which eventually renders him a part of their tribe.
Clocking in at three hours long, the film was immensely difficult to produce, with scenes such as a buffalo stampede involving real animals and no CGI or film tricks. Costner also performed his own stunts, and had to direct the film himself after passing the script on to various directors who were adamant about changing important scenes. This effort would pay off; as the film went on to win seven Oscars, including the Academy Award for Best Picture.
