Russian thriller '12' to be screened at EFCA

CAIRO – 18 October 2017: Russian drama film "12" (2007) will be screened on Sunday with Arabic subtitles, followed by a discussion with film critic Magda Kherallah at the Egyptian Film Critics Association (EFCA) in Cairo’s downtown.

Directed and written by Nikita Mikhalkov, the thriller film revolves around the lives of Russian jurors who are required to decide on the fate of a Chechen teen charged with killing his stepfather who used to work as a soldier in the Russian army.

The jurors, who will decide the upcoming life of the teen on trial, are comprised of ordinary citizens, including a taxi driver, an entertainer, a corporate executive and a worker in a subway station.

Starring Sergey Makobetskiy, Sergey Garmash, and Apti Magamaev, among others, the film was nominated for an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film in 2008.

The Russian film was also nominated for the Russian Guild of Film Critics awards and the Russian National Movie Awards, among others. It has also won the Golden Eagle Awards in Russia in 2008 and the Nika Awards in the same year.
