Antekat to perform concert at Cairo Opera House

CAIRO – 16 October 2017: Antekat (Rega Cairo) will perform a concert at the Cairo Opera House on October 27 from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Rega Cairo was founded in 2007 by Yasser Anwar, performing a variety of oriental and Western music.

It started at the time with the name of “Rasail Sayed Darwish” (Messages of Sayed Darwish), relying on presenting different forms of Eastern and Western music in several famous theaters in the Arab Republic of Egypt.

Born in 1882 in Alexandria, Sayed Darwish is one of the most iconic Arabic musicians. He composed a large number of plays and many folk songs, including “Oom Ya Masry”.

The current Egyptian anthem “Belady, Belady” was composed by Darwish. He managed to develop Egyptian music and pave the way for many singers, such as Mounira El Mahdeya.

Underground musicians are more commonly fusing traditional Egyptian folk music with rock and jazz.
