CAIRO – 12 October 2017: DA HOUSE cultural center in Giza will be featuring female oud musician and singer BalQeis on Friday, October 27.
BalQeis began playing the oud when she was only 12, and over the past few years, she has been covering various oriental and English songs. Her music tends to combine oriental and rock, and she has lately been working to combine electronic voices with oud to create a unique blend.
BalQeis graduated from the University of Helwan with a degree in music and is currently preparing for her Masters in improvisation.
Besides performing at the Cairo Jazz Festival, her projects include “REN Women” (in cooperation with the British Council) and “Women X” (with the Swedish Institute).
