CAIRO – 11 October 2017: World Music Awards winning singer, Amr Abdul-Basset Diab, celebrates his 56th birthday on Wednesday.
Diab, born in 1961 in Port Said, has been rising in fame over the past two decades in the Arab world; continuing to break sales records based on a BBC report, and according to his official Facebook page.
The artist’s songs have been translated to seven languages. He also founded Mediterranean Music, a record company.
His most famous album is “Nour El-Ain,” which brought him to the international scene and earned him the title of "Father of Mediterranean Music" for his style of blending Egyptian and western rhythms.
Diab has received a lifetime achievement at the Big Apple Music Awards in 2009. In the 2014 World Music Awards, Diab was also awarded Best Egyptian Artist, Best Male Arab Artist and World's Best Arab Male Artist Voted Online.
Diab’s first album was “Ya Tareeq,” produced in 1983; while his most recent album is “Meaddy El Nas” (Passing People), which was released in July following a major viral promotion campaign across the streets of Cairo sponsored by Egypt Linx.
