CAIRO – 11 October 2017: Egyptian Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, headed by Dr. Jehan Zaki, declared applications open for the State Award for Artistic Creativity till October 24.

The award will be available in different fields of arts such as music, dance, theatre and architecture.
To register for this award, applicants should be Egyptian, should not have won the award before and be over 35 years old.

Egyptian painter Ragheb Ayyad came up with the idea of establishing the Egyptian Arts Academy in Rome in the early 20th century. Ayyad was inspired by the keenness of most of the European countries to establish academies for youth artists in Rome; where each country fully supports its students in these academies through scholarships.

At the end of every year, students from each academy show their art in an exhibition attended by the president and ministers of Italy to encourage and motivate students.

Finding it a perfect chance to develop the talents of young artists, he wrote to the Egyptian Plenipotentiary in Rome to suggest constructing an Egyptian Arts Academy in Rome.

The academy was founded in 1929, first located at Villa Borghese district; then it was moved to Collo Opeyo Palace in 1930. In the same year, the Italian diplomatic delegation in Cairo proposed to the Egyptian government to relocate the Egyptian Academy in Julia valley.

The academy includes a museum with 120 ancient Egyptian artifacts, including pieces from the treasure of Tut Ankh Amun.
