‘Pistol Opera’ to screen at Cimatheque

CAIRO – 10 October 2017: Japanese film “Pistol Opera” will screen at Cimatheque on Sunday at 7 p.m. and Tuesday at 4 p.m.

The film revolves around the third best killer, Miyuki Minazuki, nicknamed "Stray Cat," who tries her best to be the top ranked assassin. She lives in a Japanese home with her grandmother and her favorite weapon is a pistol. To be the number one assassin, she was tipped that targeting the number one killer, the mysterious "Hundred Eyes,” might do the trick.

The action, drama and crime was directed by Seijun Suzuki and written by Kazunori Itô and Takeo Kimura, and was first released in 2001.

This film is part of a program curated by Donia Shohdy, as a tribute to the late filmmaker Suzuki.

Suzuki was born in Nihonbashi, Tokyo, on May 24, 1943. He enrolled in the film department at the Kamakura Academy and passed the assistant director's exam. For the next few years, he worked as an assistant director at several studios. In 1956, he directed his first film “Minato no kanpai: Shôri o waga te ni” [Victory is Mine].
