Egyptian actor Hussein Fahmy urges production of state-supported films

CAIRO – 9 October 2017: Renowned Egyptian actor Hussein Fahmy urged the production of films that are supported by the state including films featuring wars and security cases on Monday, during a seminar held as part of the 33rd Alexandria International Film Festival that runs from October 7 to October 12.

During the seminar, Fahmy has stressed the importance of operating cinema not only as art but also as a business. Filmmakers operating in the industry should understand the economy of filmmaking he stated, according to a statement by the festival’s media office.

“I have participated in several documentaries and advertorials when I traveled to the U.S. after the defeat of 1967 and only hoped that I could work with major filmmakers and directors such as Youssef Shahin who encouraged me to collaborate in one of his films at the time,” he added during the seminar.

The anticipated

33rd Alexandria Film Festival

has been inaugurated at Bibliotheca Alexandria on Saturday entitled, “Cinema and Illegal Immigration,” featuring an array of films from different angles.

This edition is carrying the name of the renowned Egyptian actor Hussein Fahmy who has long contributed to Egyptian cinema and has been honored in the opening ceremony.
