Photo Exhibit ‘Kalbelias’ at Art Lounge Cairo

Norwegian photographer Christian Stejskal presents his photo collection on gypsy tribes in India

  Cairo-based Norwegian photographer and violin player Christian Stejskal will play solo violin Sunday, October 12, at 7 p.m. at the Art Lounge Cairo alongside his exhibit, “Kalbelias: Gypsies in the Rajestani Desert.” Stejskal is a seasoned violin player with experience playing in several orchestras. He also worked as first violin player at the Cairo Opera Orchestra between 2010 and 2013 while working on his book project about Cairo’s informal garbage collectors, the “Zabaleen.” His current exhibit at the Art Lounge Cairo reflects upon the time he spent with a kalbelia gypsy community in Rajastan near the Pakistani border. Art Lounge Cairo is located at 37 B Ahmed Heshmat St. in Zamalek.
