CAIRO – 5 October 2017: Starting from Thursday, October 5, a special exhibition of 35 pieces of Islamic calligraphy will take place until November 10 at the prestigious Sam Fogg Art Gallery in London.

Titled "The Rhythm of the Pen and the Art of the Book: Islamic Calligraphy from the 13th to the 19th Century," the exhibition celebrates the golden age of Islamic calligraphy.

The history of the practice is carefully detailed, showing the various mediums used for calligraphy and how the invention of paper allowed this art form to flourish.

Complete manuscripts and framed pieces are both featured, showcasing the variety of sizes calligraphy could come in.

The exhibition also comes with a catalogue book of the featured works, compiled by Andrew Butler-Wheelhouse.
