CAIRO - 1 October 2017: University of Cambridge's British-Egyptian mission headed by Archaeologist Barry Kemp discovered Saturday the head of King Akhenaten statue during excavations in the first chamber of the Great Temple of Aten in the ancient city of Tel Amarna, Minya governorate.

In a statement issued by the ministry, the Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA) Mustafa Yaziri stressed the importance of this discovery, as Akhenaten is not only one of the most important ancient kings of Egypt, but also reveals the secrets of this city.

The head of the Ancient Egyptian Department at the Ministry of Antiquities Ayman Ashmawi said that the head of King Akhenaten statue is made of gypsum and is about 9 cm high, 13.5 cm long and 8 cm wide.
