CAIRO – 28 September 2017: Alongside its documentaries and films, El Gouna Film Festival is also a host to a varied selection of unique, experimental short films.

The first of these films is Chinese director Yang Qiu’s “A Gentle Night,” a short film about a Chinese woman who loses her young daughter and refuses to remain passive, doing her best to find her child. “A Gentle Night” won the Palme d'Or award for Best Short Film at the Cannes Film Festival, and is set to premiere in the U.S. on October 4.

Next comes director Sebastien Carfora’s French short film, “Inside the Wardrobe,” which follows a homeless craftsman carrying a wardrobe on his back, and is desperate to get back onto his feet after everything has been taken away from him. The short film is set to premiere at the Grand Off festival in Warsaw.

Then there is Jacqueline Lentzou’s dream-like experimental short “Hiwa.” Jan, from the Philippines, dreams of a place he has never been to; Athens. There, the sun is so weak you could stare at it with ease, and children carry houses on their backs. He describes the dream to his wife, while trying to save his daughters in the dream.
