CAIRO – 26 September 2017: Director Thomas A. Morgan’s "Soufra," with Susan Sarandon, the executive producer, have created the hopeful and inspiring tale of how one woman helped turn life around in a refugee camp, starting her own business and uniting people.

Set in Burj el-Barajneh refugee camp in Lebanon, “Soufra” follows an old woman named Mariam Shaar who decides to create a catering company named "Soufra," after the Arabic word for feast. Life in the camp is poor and dismal, and women are typically employed as cleaners or factory workers.

Shaar takes it upon herself to bring a ray of hope to the camp she has known as home her entire life, and unites the camp’s women with backgrounds from all across the Arab world to help establish the company. Her ultimate goal is to create a Soufra food truck, and use the funds to build a children’s center.

“Soufra” will premiere at El Gouna Film Festival.
