In Pics: Stars flock to al Gouna Film Festival

CAIRO – 22 September 2017: Film industry heavyweights begin to make it down to the red carpet as El Gouna International Film Festival just kicked off on Friday evening, with the participation of 35 countries, including Lebanon, Jordan and France.

El Gouna Film Festival, slated to run until September 29, is the first-ever international film festival to be effort-driven by Egyptian businessmen, without any governmental financial support.

Egypt has selected Amr Salama’s “Sheikh Jackson” as its candidate for consideration at the upcoming edition of the Oscars, set to take place in February 2018.

The committee selecting the film gave 17 votes for “Sheikh Jackson”, while “Mawlana” (The Preacher) took 5 votes, “El Asleen” (The Originals) 4 votes, and 1 vote each for ‘’Ali, the Goat and Ibrahim’’ and “El Kenz’’ (The Treasure).
