CAIRO – 21 September 2017: Minister of Culture Helmy El Namnam, Minister of Endowments Mohamed Mokhtar Goma'a and Director-General Egyptian Book Organization, Haitham El Haj, have inaugrated Amr Ibn El As Book Fair, which is running through September 29.
El Namnam announced that this is a step in the Ministry of Culture’s efforts to make reading accessible to everyone.
Amr Ibn El Aas Mosque is often chosen for its historical value. It is the first mosque to be built in Egypt, and is located at Mogmaa' El Adyan, as a symbol of religious unity.
The fair also organized a celebration of the new Islamic year. It marks the opening of many book-fairs in mosques in cooperation with the Ministry of Endowments. The fair offers discounts of up to 50%.
The Ministry of Culture and the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs publications are adding to cultural diversity, according to Mokhtar Gomaa. It is also an important step in bilateral cooperation between both ministries.
The Ministry of Culture seeks to find special place for the book fairs in the mosques to attract tourists, Namnam stated, adding that the Ministry of Antiquates provided the needed supplies of books for the fair.
