CAIRO - 19 September 2017: Celebrating his contributions to film criticism in the Arab Region, El-Gouna Film Festival is honored to present its Career Achievement Award to Ibrahim al-Aris during its first edition in the opening ceremony.
‘’I am proud that the great film Critic Ibrahim al-Aris , who is a great cinematic figure, will receive the Career Achievement Award from the festival; he has contributed to establishing the status of Arab cinema in international forums both through his outstanding articles and his prominent cultural role.
We are honoured to present this award in recognition of his great achievements that have served the Arab film industry for more than 50 years," said Intishal al-Tammimi, the festival director.
Aris is a researcher in cultural history, a journalist, a film critic and translator. He was born in 1946, in Beirut.
He studied film directing in Rome, in addition to studying script and criticism in London.
He has worked in the journalism field since 1970 and currently heads the film section of Al-Hayat newspaper, where he writes a daily article on human heritage and the history of world culture. He translated about 40 books and studies about cinema
GFF previously announced that the Oscar-winning actor-director Forest Whitaker will visit Egypt to attend El-Gouna Film Festival held from September 22 to 29 where he will receive a lifetime achievement award.
In addition, the 77 year old actor Adel Emam will receive the Creative Achievement Award during El-Gouna Film Festival (GFF) titled, “Cinema for Humanity,” for his reputation as the most outstanding star in Arab films and for his distinguished humanitarian situations.
This comes after the festival management had decided to honour three filmmakers, one is Egyptian, the other is Arab and the third is international during its first edition, who have influenced the film scene in various aspects over many years.
