CAIRO - 19 September 2017: The Egyptian National Council for Human Rights honoured the makers of “Halawet el Dunia” (The Sweetness of Life) and “Haza el Masaa” (This Evening) soap operas on Monday at Cairo Opera House.

The honouring ceremony was attended by the Egyptian director and scriptwriter, Tamer Mohsen, the director of “Hazaa al-Masaa” and its actors Arwa Gouda, Ahmed Dawoud and Yasmine Aboul Yazeed. The Egyptian director Hussein al- Menbawy the director of “Halawet al Dunia” and its actors Hanan Motawea, Anoushka and Yasmine Geith attended as well.

The council chose to honour the makers of these two series particularly because of the humane messages they both succeeded to deliver. “Halawet al-Dunia” is the story of a young career-oriented woman who is about to get married but her world comes crushing down on her as she discovers that she has leukaemia just a few weeks before her wedding.

“Halawet al-Dunia” offers a new take on cancer in Arabic drama; it gives an advert that encourages people to do regular check-ups and to deal with the illness in a positive way, educating people and raising their awareness.

As soon as it was aired, it achieved booming success due to the romantic love story, which takes place between Selim, played by the Tunisian heartthrob Dhaffer L’Abidine and Amina performed by Hend Sabry; the love story that made both of them overcome cancer.

The series hosts a galaxy of stars beside Sabry and L'Abidine such as Hani Adel, Anoushka, Mostafa Fahmy, Hanan Motawe’a, and Ragaa al-Gedawy among others.

“Hazaa al-Masaa” presented the story of a well-off married couple, Akram and Nayla, who find themselves at a standstill in their relationship. Their life seems to be perfect, but we soon see Akram visiting a therapist to discuss his sexual relationship with his wife. It appears that their lack of sexual or intimate activities has left Nayla suspecting him of having an affair, which he strongly denies.

In an attempt to save their marriage, Nayla suggests they take a break from each other and see other people. They agree that if either of them got romantically attached to someone, they must tell one another. Akram refuses, but eventually gives in to his wife’s demands.

As the events of the series develop, Akram visits his chauffeur’s alley where he meets and gets attracted to his cousin Abla, falls in love with her and marries her to complicate things further.

Samir, Akram’s chauffeur, at the end turned to be a phone-hacker. The drama addresses a contemporary issue; one that the smartphone generation knows only too well, namely, the dangers and impact a small device can have on daily life.

Men hack into females’ devices stealing photos and videos, while some send spam links that enable them to monitor their mobile phones’ too, eventually threatening to expose the women and blackmailing them.

“Haza al-Masaa” stars a variety of stars including, Eyad Nassar, Arwa Gouda, Ahmed Dawood, Hanan Motaw’a, and Hani Adel among others. The scriptwriter has ensured that each character has his/her own story rather than orbit around one star.
