CAIRO – 18 September 2017: Windsor Festival kicked off in the United Kingdom on September 17 and will last until October 1.

Each year, the world’s finest musicians, writers, artists, and local performers participate in the festival, which is considered to be the premier music and arts festivals in the UK. They come to entertain and delight festival audiences, to celebrate Windsor's special place as a royal town, and to inspire the next generation of artistic talent and creativity.

The festival offers special events happening in and around Windsor, such as the events presented at the marvelous Waterloo Chamber and St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle.

The biennial Windsor Festival International String Competition was inaugurated in 2008. It aims to launch the career of violinists and cellists.

Windsor Festival was founded in 1969 by the violinist Yehudi Menuhin and the actor Ian Hunter as artistic directors. The roots of the Festival stretch back to 1952, when Robin Woods, Dean of Windsor and President of the Windsor and Eton Society began staging the Windsor and Eton Celebratory Concerts.

Fifteen years later, Woods met Yehudi Menuhin at a Royal Academy Dinner for concerts in St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle.
