CAIRO – 14 September 2017: The Alexandrian and Mediterranean Research Center will organize a lecture about restoration workshops of Al-Azhar Mosque at BA on September 14.

The lecture is conducted by Professor Saleh Lamei, the director of the Center for Conversation and Preservation of Islamic Architectural Heritage.

The Center for Conversation and Preservation of Islamic Architectural Heritage is responsible for Al-Azhar Mosque restoration workshops.

The process of Al-Azhar Mosque restoration includes works such as repainting the minibar of the mosque, restoring the wooden windows and wall decorations, and lighting effects.

The Center for Conservation and Preservation of Islamic Architectural Heritage has been tasked with preparing a comprehensive plan for the restoration of Al-Azhar Mosque, together with establishing the basic principles and strategies of the restoration and preservation process, in accordance with international standards.

Aged more than 1,000 years, Al-Azhar Mosque is one of the oldest and greatest Islamic destinations.

In 972, Al-Moez Le-Din Allah al-Fatimi ordered Jawhar al-Siqilii to construct Al-Azhar Mosque to spread Shi’ite principles.

After that in 1171, Saladin changed the principles of the mosque to Sunni principles.
