CAIRO – 11 September 2017: The Egyptian Center for Culture and Arts, also known as Makan, will host singer Sayed Rekabi, who performs traditional tribal songs from Upper Egypt, on Tuesday, September 12.
Rekabi and his ensemble will perform a variety of Jaafra songs based on Nameem poetry, which Rekabi’s tutors were skilled in. Nameem is a poetic performance competition where one poet attempts to one-up the other by coming up with rhymes on the spot.
The performance will run from 8 p.m. to10 p.m., and reservations must be made before 7:30 p.m. Makan is located in Saad Zaghloul Street in El Dawaween, Cairo.
Born in Jaafra village in Aswan province, Rekabi learned the traditional music of his village under the tutoring of poets El Leithi and Abu El Amin.
