CAIRO - 8 September 2017: The veteran Egyptian actor Yehia el-Fakharany announced that Saturday, September 8 is the date of the last show of his play ‘’Leila Men Alf Leila’’(A Night of a Thousand Nights).
The play has achieved great success on the National Theatre stage. Fakhrany explained that he still does not know whether the play will be resumed in the future or not, noting is certain about the return of the play is the decision of both the National Theater and the Theater House.
The play was written by the legendary poet Beram el-Tonsy and directed by Mohsen Helmy. It narrates the story of an old beggar who roams the streets singing with his daughter, at the time of the king’s crowning ceremony. The king, who is still a young man, falls in love with the beggar’s daughter. He chooses to mask his real family and title.
Depending on dances, music, and songs is the main element of the play’s success, because it attracts different types of people. It is also considered a strong comeback for the Egyptian National theatre, as the play managed to generate a lot of money.
Starring beside Fakharany, Heba Magdi, Mohamed Mohsen, Lotfy Labib and a number of cast members from the National Theatre. Fakhrany’s last contribution to the National Theatre was Shakespeare’s King Lear back in 2001.
