CAIRO – 29 August 2017: The Edinburgh Fringe commenced on August 28 and saw a record number of visitors. This year marked the 70th anniversary of the first edition of the festival, so it is fitting that a milestone like this was reached.

Nearly 2.7 million tickets had been sold by Monday afternoon, according to BBC News, with audiences of over 450,000 and sales reaching £4.3 million ($5.6 million). This year was also remarkable for the host of Arab talent that was being featured at the Fringe, some being part of the

Arab Art

Focus Edinburgh (AAFE) project which set out to introduce Fringe goers to the fresh new Arab talent.

Even despite visa issues causing the

cancellation

of several shows, the AAFE has preserved and adapted. Thankfully, their perseverance paid off; The Arab Arts Focus: Dance Double Bill was nominated for the Fringe's Dance award, according to The National. Even in the face of hardship, Arab talent endures.
