CAIRO- 22 August 2017: The Egyptian Film Critics Association will screen the 2017 drama adventure movie, ‘Okja.’ The screening will be held in the Association's headquarter in downtown Cairo, and it will be followed by an open discussion moderated by the film critic Ahmed Shawqi.
‘Okja’ is a Netflix produced movie that did not make it to the cinema theatres, which sparked controversy. Although its first world premiere was at Cannes International Film Festival and it was nominated for the prestigious Palme d’Or, the Festival’s jury president, Pedro Almodovar, was against the movie. He stated that the streaming giant was undermining the cinema world with focusing on home entertainment.
The movie is about a young South Korean girl, Mija, who is ready to risk everything to stop an authoritative, multi-national company from abducting her pet and her best friend ‘Okja.’
‘Okja’ was directed by multiple award-winning South Korean director Joon-ho Bong, and starred by the South Korean young actress Ahn Seo-hyun as well as Hollywood superstars including Oscar winner Tida Swinton, Paul Dano, and Jake Gyllenhaal.
