Egyptian film ‘Last Days of the City’ to screen in Jordan

CAIRO – 22 August 2017: The Egyptian drama film, ‘The Last Days of the City’ (Akher Ayam El Madina) (2016) will screen on August 24 during the Arab Film Festival in Amman, Jordan.

The movie is directed by Tamer El Said and written by El Said and Rasha Salti. It was released in 2016, but viewers were prevented from the screening in Egypt.

Two years before the January 25 Revolution, the young director hit the streets of Cairo to finish shooting the movie he was directing. He finds a dire economic situation, corruption, unemployment, poverty, and depression are all social phenomena that fill the air of Cairo. There are other signs that declare the city was on its way to a major change too.

The film stars a number of young actors like Khalid Abdalla, and Maryam Saleh. In addition, Fadila Tawfik (Mama Fadila) and Hanan Youssef also participated in the movie.
It is not Hanan Youssef’s first time at participating in an independent movie. She participated in ‘Ein Shams’ (The Eye of the Sun) movie in 2008. ‘Ein Shams’ was written by Tamer El Said in cooperation with Ibrahim El-Batout.

It was awarded Cagliari Movie Award in Berlin International Film Festival in 2016, and best director award in Buenos Aires International Festival of Independent Cinema 2016.
The ‘Last Days of the City’ is not the only Egyptian movie scheduled to screen in the Arab Film Festival.

‘Ali the Goat and Ibrahim’ (Ali Meaza Wi Ibrahim) (2016) was screened on the Festival’s first day.
