CAIRO – 21 August 2017: Mashrabia Gallery will be hosting a visual/ digital media exhibition led by visual artist Ahmed Sabry entitled, ‘The White Smoke,’ which will run between September 17 to October 26.
Sabry is known for using media as a conceptual and visual source, that adds to his career, and is able to achieve visual construction that is provided by television and digital images.
His visual construction methods include imposing contemporary formalism configurations such as watching films created by the relation between image and text, according to a released statement by the Gallery.
Sabry highlights the notion of the forms resonating from cultural content that reflect a certain value of professional media including television and content on social media that seek to create diverse cultural and visual outputs.
He started promoting for his artistic output after being inspired by an incident that occurred in Egypt in 2011 where an unnamed Facebook page that is known for promoting conspiracy, according to the statement, has warned Egyptians from the country’s enemies.
The Facebook page administrators have managed to gather photos and written posts from an array of sources and have displayed them in form of a collage; the administrators then dissected each post and considered them codes to inciting trouble and conspiracies.
The statement described these collages as “visually rich” and that it has encouraged Sabry to unveil his line of arts from this production. The works are meant to send codes or certain messages and await viewers to decode them.
