CAIRO – 21 August 2017: El Sawy Culture Wheel will be hosting the 13th Mime Festival from August 21 to August 22.
The Festival is directed by mime artist Ahmed Ramzy and the Director of El Sawy Culture Wheel Mohamed El Sawy.
Mime performances are meant to tackle many social issues that Egyptians face such as gender inequality, unemployment, marriages and the inner conflict between man and evil, according to the event’s official page on El Sawy Culture Wheel official website.
Established in 2005, the Mime Festival has been organized by El Sawy Culture Wheel as an annual event promoting mime art in Egypt.
This year, 17 mime crews will perform in the festival, compared to only nine shows that were carried out in the previous edition. The 13th edition also receives an increase in the number of the participants.
Mime crew, El Zourkany, has won last year’s edition for best performance and will be participating again this year.
Last year, the jury of the Festival consisted of theater directors and mime artists such as Hussein El Ezzaby, Hesham Gomaa and Samaa Ebrahim. No updates were added announcing this year’s jury according to the event’s official Facebook page. s efforts and career.
Mime and pantomime, or the silent acting, is based on the movement of the body and signs that the actor performs on stage. It includes numerous forms varying in progress; for example, in India, mime is combined with music and dance.
Mainly, the inspiration of this art resonates from reality, tackling a universal issue in a factional plot. In the postmodern era, mime art was presented through masks, and black and white face painting or clothes, inspiring a number of mime crews to promote their stage names as Oreo, The Story of the Mask, and Gray Team.
Ironically, the ‘Howa Esmoh Eh’ (What its Name) mime crew chose this name because they faced many people who kept asking them about the art they perform, “Howa Esmoh Eh?”
