Cairo – 19 August 2017: Visualized artistic adaptations of Mohammed Afifi Matar’s poetry will be displayed for two weeks at Dai Gallery, starting from August 19.
More than 30 artists are participating in this exhibition.
It is not the first time that the Dai Gallery has paid tribute to Matar. Early this year an Afifi Matar Poetry Award competition was organized.
Matar is an Egyptian born in 1935. He is a poet, critic, children’s stories writer and translator.
He has written many volumes of poetry during his lifetime. One of the most famous is Robaa’yet El Farah [Quartet of Joy].
Robaa’yet El Farah [Quartet of Joy] was translated into English by Ferial Ghazoul and John Verlenden.
Matar received a number of cultural awards. He also won the State Appreciation Award in 2006.
