Donia Sheta redefines handmade art

CAIRO – 17 August 2017: A young artist took a step into the field of art six months ago, ambitious artist Donia Sheta opened a page on Facebook and Instagram to build her own gallery of artworks.



She graduated with a B.A. in Advertising and PR from Modern Sciences and Arts University (MSA) in 6 October city, a year ago. She is currently working in the advertisement field. Art has been a passion for her since she was young. She has been wanting to open her own gallery for a while; so she took the step 6 months ago when she opened a Facebook and Instagram page for her work.



Her page aims to transform the space of her customers’ houses with a contemporary Egyptian handmade art piece that is full of colors, paints and crafts.



Sheta is a talented artist, but she also took courses in her school to hone her talent and she still watches YouTube videos to learn about the new trends to apply in her work.

Her personality identifies through the colors she uses; which are usually bright shades. “I don’t like dark colors, I love bright colors and I usually use them in my work.”

Her great inspiration is Frida Kahlo because of the way she uses bright colors in her portraits, and she is in love with the patterns and colors of Pablo Picasso. However, her ultimate favorite guide in art is Farid Fadel, because he portrays people’s emotions significantly through his portraits, plus he displays Egyptian figures and culture in art in such an authentic manner.

According to Sheta, art should be funded because it is growing in Egypt, and a big group of people are starting to recognize its importance. A lot of people told her that art has no future in the market; but she found out otherwise. Art is growing quickly in the market, and people now appreciate it more.
