CAIRO - 17 August 2017: The Academy Award- winning actor Robert De Niro celebrates his 74th birthday on Thursday.

De Niro has earned four Golden Globe Award nominations for Best Actor for his work in ‘New York, New York’ (1977).

He received an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in ‘The Godfather: Part II’ in 1974, nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor in ‘Taxi Driver’ in 1976, ‘The Deer Hunter’ in 1978 and ‘Cape Fear’ in 1991. He won in 1980 the Academy Award for Best Actor for his role of Jake LaMotta in ‘Raging Bull.’

Besides his acting career, he works as a director and his directorial debut was with 1993’s ‘A Bronx Tale.’

He first gained his reputation as an actor in ‘Mean Streets’ in 1973 with the director Martin Scorsese.

He was born on August 17, 1943 in Manhattan, New York, in an Italian neighborhood. His parents were the artists Virginia who was of Dutch, English, German, French and Irish ancestry, and Robert De Niro Sr who was of half Italian and half Irish descent.

He established TriBeCa Film Festival in 2001 after founding the TriBeca Film Center in New York in 1989 to spur cultural and economic growth after September 11 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center.
