Remembering Anis Mansour on his birthday’s anniversary

CAIRO - 15 August 2017: On the anniversary of Anis Mansour’s birthday; readers’ club at Masr el-Gedida’s library will hold an event to discuss his works on August 24 at 7 p.m.
Mansour, who was born on August 18, 1925 in the central delta city of Al-Mansoura, was one of Egypt’s greatest writers and philosophers, famed for his philosophically simple writing, and leaving behind a wealth of philosophical literature.

Mansour attained his B.A. in Philosophy in 1947, and worked as a Philosophy Professor at Ain Shams University for a while before turning to Journalism at Akhbar Al-Youm newspaper then Al-Ahram, half a dozen magazines, and Al-Kawakeb magazine.

He leaves behind more than 170 books on varied subjects. Some of his books were translated to French, Dutch, and Russian. Egypt Independent reports that Mansour’s most famous work, ‘Around the World in 200 Days,’ was a compilation based on the author’s cruise around the world in 225 days, during which he became acquainted with some of the most influential figures around the world.

Mansour was also fluent in English, German, and Italian, so he translated more than 20 plays and 200 short stories into Arabic.
