CAIRO - 15 August 2017: Egyptian reggae bands Sefsafa and Meshwar will be performing tonight, from 8:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) as part of the 15th International Summer Festival Tuesday.
Based in Alexandria, the music group was formed in 2016 aspiring to combine both Egyptian traditional music and reggae to create an interesting new take on both music genres. Through music, Sefsafa deepens the contemporary expression of identity in modern Alexandria. The band consists of 5 members: Semo Siam, Hesham Gamal, Maged Serag, Mohamed Engoma, Mido Renga.
Meshwar is a Cairo based reggae band that simultaneously reggae beats with Arabic lyrics. Mehswar consists of band members Ahmed Yousef, Ahmed Tito, Mahmoud Fawzy, Mohamed Youssef,Abduallah Mohamed Diaa Badr, Abdullah El-Halawani, Waleed Abdo, and Muhammed Hassan.
The International Summer Festival is a massive music and arts event organized by the BA Arts Center with the goal of adding a “colorful taste” to summers in Alexandria, as explained in their mission statement. Attracting a diverse audience through its combination of classical Egyptian art, new and varied mediums of art and music, and the 2017 addition will house more than 60 versatile artistic events, varying between music, theatre, cinema and dance. The ticket to their performance is LE 35 ($1.97).
