CAIRO – 14 August 2017: The birthday anniversary of 18th century French painter Claude-Joseph Vernet will be on Tuesday, August 15.
Claude-Joseph Vernet is a famous French landscape painter born in 1714 in Avignon, France. He gained his celebrity with his topographical paintings and serene landscapes.
Topographical paintings feature the description of physical characteristics, both geographical and man-made. Topographical artists should draw accurate details and impressions of a land.
Vernet began to train with his father Antoine, before traveling to Rome, where he studied classical landscapes in the tradition of landscape painters Claude and Gaspard Dughet.
He was instructed by Louis XV to draw a series of canvases of ports of France. He received the important royal commission for that.
The greatest French paintings drawn by him are the “Banishment of Hagar and Ismail” in 1753, “A Shipwreck in Stormy Seas” in 1773, “A Landscape at Sunset” in 1773, and “A Seaport” and “A Sporting Contest on the Tiber at Rome” in 1750.
