CAIRO – 14 August 2017: Prominent comedian and actor Steve Martin turned 72 years old today, on August 14.
At a very young age he learned magic tricks, juggling and learned to create balloon animals through his first job at Disney’s Fantasyland. Martin later studied drama and English poetry at Santa Ana College.

The ambitious actor embarked on his career in comedy among other art works at the Bird Cage Theater and joined the comedy troupe at Kontt’s Berry Farm.

Majoring in Philosophy while at college, Martin later switched his major to theater at California State University. He later attempted a writing career by releasing ‘The Smother Brothers Comedy Hour’ (1967) that won him an Emmy award.

Martin was a writer for several shows including ‘The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour’ (1969) and ‘The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour’ (1971). His first comedy albums were released in 1977 called ‘Let’s Get Small’ and ‘A Wild and Crazy Guy’ (1978) that sold over a million copies and kicked off his movie career.

He starred in several movies including ‘The Absent-Minded Waiter’ (1977), ‘The Jerk’ (1979), ‘Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid’ (1982), ‘Pennies from Heaven’ (1981), ‘Three Amigos’ (1986), ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ (1986), and ‘Roxanne’ (1987), amongst several other films.

Martin is also remembered for his dramatic roles in films such as ‘Grand Canyon’ (1991), ‘Leap of Faith’ (1992), ‘A Simple Twist of Fate’ (1994), and ‘The Spanish Prisoner’ (1997), among other dramatic works.

His recent works include films ‘Home’ (2015), ‘Love of the Coopers’ (2015), and ‘Year’ (2011). Martin also has talents as a playwright, having written for the New Yorker.
